Solar PV Battery Charge Controller Project Plans & Parts Kit

The following page describes a 30A solar PV battery charge controller that I built to control battery charging for my shed and ham shack PV system.

Normally lead acid batteries should not be bulk charged above 14.4VDC. This charge controller limits the charge voltage. It is based on an article in Home Power Magazine.

The project plans, schematic and description of the charge controller is shown in the pages below. They are from an article in Home Power Magazine by Tom Kirkgaard.

This is the version that I made for my solar PV system. It includes fuses, bypass mode and also disconnects the solar panels from the batteries. In addition, it switches in a voltmeter or ammeter.
